Auditor-general (AG) released the latest municipal audit results, showing an overall decline for the 2017-18 financial year. According to the AG, deteriorating audit outcomes shows that various local government role players have been slow in implementing, and in many instances even disregarded, the audit office’s recommendations.

State of supply chain management as reflected in the 2015 Public Sector Supply chain management review
National Treasury has today published the supply chain management1 review, the first major assessment of the system of buying goods and services by the public sector since 2004. Back then government overhauled the supply chain management framework to decentralise procurement decisions to departments (national and provincial), municipalities and public entities.

2017 Preferential procurement regulations
The revised 2017 preferential procurement regulations intends to give increased state support to small, medium and micro businesses (SMMEs) take effect on April 1. The regulations stipulate that 30% of appropriate categories of state procurement must be set aside for SMMEs and co-operatives, as well as township and rural enterprises.
