DIVERSITY MANAGEMENT
This course provides delegates with the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values to demonstrate an understanding of diversity among people, have an appreciation of the role and positive impact of such diversity and how best to manage a diverse workforce in South Africa. Solutions on how to overcome problems experienced with group identity, discrimination and cultural differences will be explored.
This is a two (2) day intensive course. The course is conducted through:
- Regular scheduled public courses
- On-site (In house) courses for organisations or sectors’
The course is aimed at junior, middle and project managers across all spheres of
government who is interested in understanding the facets of diversity and how to
manage it.
It is assumed that people learning towards this Unit Standard are already competent in:
- Communication at NQF Level 4.
By the end of this course, participants should be able to:
- Recognise diversity, stereotyping and phobias relating to diversity
- Understand in which ways various individuals and groups are, or have been
negatively disadvantaged due to discrimination - Discuss how society and communities react to diversity
- Promote equality among different people by embracing difference
- Comprehend cultural and other differences among people
- Relate diversity directly to the South African context
- Refer to the South African Constitution and Bill of Human Rights in relation to diversity and discrimination
- Discuss diversity in terms of the history of the country
- Relate Employment Equity (EE) to diversity Explain various concepts and
principles relating to Organisational Transformation and Change Management

This is a credit bearing course and aligned to the unit standard (US 116924). The
format of the workshop will be highly interactive, reflective and relevant to
participants. Therefore, the course will involve lectures, Practical exercises, Case
Studies:
- Lectures: approximately 60%
- Practical exercises: Group interaction/ team work on practical exercises and
case studies approximately 40%
Assessment of this module will be both formative and summative. The summative
assessment at the end of the module will test whether the learner can meet the set
standards. Learners will be required to successfully complete a Portfolio of Evidence (POE) which will be assessed and moderated.
After successful completion of the course and assignment the participants will
receive a certificate of competence, which carries 14 credits at NQF level 5.
