MUNICIPAL SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT

Course Description

The lack of understanding regarding the concept of supply chain management and its inextricable link to long-term quality service delivery may be the root cause of problems beleaguering South African municipalities. Municipalities are faced with the challenge of non-compliance with supply chain management practices, which often has serious repercussions for service delivery. This training seeks to provide an executive insight into supply chain management within the municipal environment. Participants will learn about the missing link in their supply chain that leads to non-compliance. The course will provide an understanding of the latest principles and guidelines for supply chain management in the municipal context, as well as the legislative framework governing supply chain management within local government.

This course is scheduled for three (3) day contact session combined with practical
workplace experience. This course is conducted through:

Financial managers,
Finance staff in general,
Internal auditors,
Administrative and logistics personnel,
Supply chain managers,

All office bearers who have to deal with or who are responsible for supply chain
management will benefit from attending this workshop.

Prerequisites

Learners should be competent in:

Communication at Level 4.
Mathematical literacy at Level 4.

Module 1: Orientation into Municipal Supply Chain Management.
Module 2: Demand Management
Module 3: Acquisition Management
Module 4: Logistics, Disposal, Risk and Performance Management

Delivery Methodology

This is a credit bearing course and aligned to the unit standard (US 116353). The
format of the workshop will be highly interactive, reflective and relevant to
participants. Therefore, the course will involve lectures, Practical exercises, Case
Studies:

Lectures: approximately 60%
Practical exercises: Group interaction/ team work on practical exercises and
case studies approximately 40%

Assessment of this module will be both formative and summative. The summative
assessment at the end of the module will test whether the learner can meet the set
standards. Learners will be required to successfully complete a Portfolio of Evidence (POE) which will be assessed and moderated. Delegate workbook, case studies, exercises, refreshments and lunch

Certification

After successful completion of the course and assignment the participants will
receive a certificate of competence, which carries 15 credits at NQF level 5.
