EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE

This course provides participants with the skills and knowledge to apply knowledge,
skills and insight in leadership as part of their job. This course is useful to learners
who are working within the Public Sector, Local Government, commercial or
community environment. The course will add value to public officials involved in
integrated development planning, public sector management or administration
specialities.

This is a three (3) day intensive course. The course is conducted through:

  • Regular scheduled public courses
  • On-site (In house) courses for organisations or sectors’

This course is intended for all persons who need to apply the principles and
concepts of emotional intelligence to the management of self and others managers
in all economic sectors. who want to inspire and lead:

  • Chief Executive Officers
  • Directors
  • Managers
  • Line managers
  • Supervisors
  • Executives
  • All who want to inspire and lead!!

It is assumed that people learning towards this Unit Standard are already competent in:

  • Communication at NQF Level 4.
  • Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 4.
  • Computer Literacy at NQF Level 4.

By the end of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the principles and concepts of
    emotional intelligence in respect of life and work relations
  • Analyse the role of emotional intelligence in interpersonal and intrapersonal
    relationships in life and work situations
  • Analyse the impact of emotional intelligence on life and work interactions
  • Evaluate own level of emotional intelligence in order to determine
    development areas.

Module 2: Emotional intelligence and self-awareness
Module 3: Interpersonal skills and communication
Module 4: Self-regulation: managing negative emotions
Module 5: Developing a positive emotional focus
Module 6: Self-confidence and resilience
Module 7: My purpose and goal setting

This is a credit bearing course and aligned to the unit standard (US 120305). The
format of the workshop will be highly interactive, reflective and relevant to
participants. Therefore, the course will involve lectures, Practical exercises, Case
Studies:

  • Lectures: approximately 60%
  • Practical exercises: Group interaction/ team work on practical exercises and
    case studies approximately 40%

Assessment of this module will be both formative and summative. The summative
assessment at the end of the module will test whether the learner can meet the set
standards. Learners will be required to successfully complete a Portfolio of Evidence (POE) which will be assessed and moderated.

After successful completion of the course and assignment the participants will
receive a certificate of competence, which carries 8 credits at NQF level 5.
