COMMUNICATION SKILLS
This course provides the essential skills to engage in professional spoken, written and visual communication messages in the workplace. This course is designed to provide professionals with the tools that they need to communicate clearly and effectively. During the course, delegates will gain insights to their own communication style, interpersonal and intercultural communication, business etiquette, business presentations and effective written messages. Delegates will have the opportunity to gain practical experience in all these facets by participating in exercises to improve the readability of texts, writing relevant texts/messages for different business purposes, evaluating presentations.
This is a two (2) day intensive course. The course is conducted through:
- Regular scheduled public courses
- On-site (In house) courses for organisations or sectors’
This course is intended for all persons who need to use communication techniques
effectively. The skills, values and knowledge reflected in this unit standard are
required by people in the field.
Prospective delegates must be comfortable with the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word
and PowerPoint.
By the end of this course, participants should be able to:
- Demonstrating an understanding of a communication process used to
coordinate selected communications programmes in the public sector - Identifying appropriate communication tools
- Utilising information technology to enhance communications
- Overcoming barriers to communication

This is a credit bearing course and aligned to the unit standard (US 12153). The
format of the workshop will be highly interactive, reflective and relevant to
participants. Therefore, the course will involve lectures, Practical exercises, Case
Studies:
- Lectures: approximately 60%
- Practical exercises: Group interaction/ team work on practical exercises and
case studies approximately 40%
Assessment of this module will be both formative and summative. The summative
assessment at the end of the module will test whether the learner can meet the set
standards. Learners will be required to successfully complete a Portfolio of Evidence (POE) which will be assessed and moderated.
This course is accredited LGSETA and each learner will have to submit a Portfolio of Evidence after the training, upon being deemed competent, the learner will receive a Certificate of Competence.
